The Suites opened in 2018, evolving from a long-standing local favorite once known as Badger Suites Pet Motel, originally founded in 1999 by Lynn Blackbourn, grandmother to current owner, Lindsey Preston. What began as a modest pet motel has grown into a thoughtfully designed, home-like boarding experience for dogs, offering the structure, comfort, and attention to detail that today’s pet owners value.

The building itself, located at 1717 Holiday Drive in Janesville, carries even deeper family roots. It was once home to Rock Veterinary Clinic, owned and operated by Lindsey’s grandfather, Dr. Charlie Blackbourn, DVM. After the clinic closed, Lynn lovingly transformed the space, converting the former exam rooms and treatment areas into private overnight suites for dogs.

From a young age, Lindsey spent countless hours helping her grandmother at Badger Suites, feeding, grooming, and learning the ins and outs of quality pet care. She officially joined the team in high school and, after a short stint at college, returned full-time to work alongside Lynn until her passing in 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.

In 2018, Lindsey honored her grandmother’s legacy by renaming the business to The Suites. Since then, she has elevated the brand while preserving its warmth, familiarity, and personal care. In 2022, she expanded the vision by opening WOOFHAUS, a structured, doggy daycare also located in Janesville.

In addition to her years of hands-on experience, Lindsey brings a lifelong background in the purebred dog world. She has shown dogs in AKC confirmation , earning multiple Best Junior Handler awards, Best of Breed wins, and recognition as a Top Junior Handler in German Shorthaired Pointers.
